In 2025, the City and community will co-develop an action plan for the Fruit Valley neighborhood. This plan will update the Fruit Valley Subarea Plan that was adopted in 2010. It will also create a list of actions to help improve the quality of life for all Fruit Valley residents.
This project is part of a larger City program to improve accessibility, health, safety and opportunity in historically underserved neighborhoods. The City’s work is guided by data and long-term partnerships with people who live, work and go to school in the neighborhood. The City used a similar place-based approach in the Fourth Plain area in 2015. That project led to many:
Transportation safety projects
Economic development programs
Murals and public art installations
The Fourth Plain Forward Action Plan also led to the creation of the Fourth Plain Commons to help address the need for affordable housing and support for small food-based businesses highlighted in the plan. The City hopes that this project will generate similar long-term investments in Fruit Valley.
