Think about the kids and walkers

I tend to walk or bike most places with my kids because we don't have a car during the day. It is very unpleasant to walk next to large streets with fast moving-traffic, much less cross them. Sometimes there are lights and crosswalks where they are needed; sometimes we have to go a couple of blocks out of our way to get to one. Sometimes the sidewalks and street-side plants are arranged in obviously bizarre ways, like over near the local Costco, where the sidewalk is next to the street and the plants separate the sidewalk from the parking lot. This is backwards. The plants should be between pedestrians and loud, unpleasant, potentially dangerous cars going by in the street. There is no need for a barrier between the sidewalk and the parking lot; cars generally move slowly in lots. I don't expect anyone to rip up existing sidewalks, but paying attention to things like this in the future can make neighborhoods nicer. Thank you.
