Why should I participate in the climate strategy development process?
This is an early opportunity to tell us your priorities and concerns as it relates to creating a more resilient city, and developing community practices and policies related to sustainability and climate change.
Why is the climate strategy being developed now? What is its purpose?
Greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, energy use, land use change, and other sources are changing our climate in ways that could put the community at risk. Projected changes in temperature, snowpack, severe storms and wildfire risk could threaten City infrastructure, natural resources and public health. By taking action to reduce the City’s emissions and prepare for climate risks, the City will position itself to be ahead of the curve and protect the health and well-being of our residents and economy.
How will my input be used?
Community input will be considered along with input from City staff, committees and partners throughout the planning process. We will use input from all stakeholders along with available data, literature, lessons learned and known best practices to develop the climate strategy. Specifically, your input will inform the climate strategy’s overarching goals, vision and targets; sectors of focus; and strategies.

blakebaxter12 months agoprecious plastic style recycling center
I worked for a restaurant before the pandemic and I was astonished to see the number of recyclable plastics we threw away every day. If the city invested in shop space for a plastic collection and recycling center, we could do a lot to reducing waste and bending the linear product lifecycle of plastics to something more closed in shape. https://preciousplastic.com/index.html

It could function like the lead abatement program that the City of St. Louis does - they replace old windows, which spread lead dust, for free!

Provide incentives for green businesses to come to and stay in Vancouver, and increase the tax burden for those who pollute, waste resources, or don't invest in sustainable improvements to their facilities and practices.

I read today that the Glenn Jackson bridge was built with capacity to include a light rail. It would be great to bring that over and then start developing the tracks to travel through out the city of Vancouver and to outer areas.
